EHS provides support for the use of radioactive materials, X-ray machines, and other sources of radiation at UT. Ionizing radiation can be hazardous if safe procedures are not followed. The mission of the radiation safety office is to minimize occupational exposure to ionizing radiation, keeping doses as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA), and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations. EHS also maintains the university's broad scope license for radioactive materials as well as the registration for radiation producing machines (X-rays).
The Radiation Safety program provides the following services:
- Radiation Emergency Information
- Radioactive Materials
- X-ray Devices
- Medical Use and Clinical Research Involving Radiation
- Radiation Program Licenses and Regulations
- Radiation Safety Policies and Support
- Radiation Safety Forms and SOPs
- Radiation Safety Training
- Radiation Dosimetry
- Radioactive Waste
- Radiation Risk Assessment
- Non-Ionizing Radiation
- Magnetic Fields
- Laser Safety
